It depends on your intended use. Though each brush can be used in many different applications, the most common uses for each brush are as follows: Flat for foundations, Flat Angled for contouring and bronzers, Angled for blush, Tapered for concealing, and Round for mineral powders.
The bristles are synthetic which is means they are man-made with nylon or polyester filaments and yes, they are very soft.
All the brushes in the set can offer a full or sheer coverage as it depends on the amount of product you begin with. It's best to build any makeup application. If you start with too much product on your face or brush, you'll end up having to remove the excess product which is not easily done. Start with a small amount of product and build until you achieve your desired finish.
